Nothing makes you pay attention more to what was good in your life than the moment you lose it! And when you lose the use of your brain due to a concussion, it really hits home.
Because, if they were absolutely honest with you, there is nothing that conventional medicine can do for you today, except go home and take time off work or school and do absolutely nothing for 5 to 7 days or even 7 to 10 days. They think more rest is the answer, but they are merely making assumptions without any proof whatsoever.
We have what is called a triune brain, which at best, describes three distinct areas of the brain. You have what’s called the reptilian brain first, at the bottom. Then the limbic brain in the middle. And the large neocortex that sits on top and is supposedly where reason and logic reside.

A neuropsychologist is interested in the brain’s cognitive functions, such as attention, language, and memory. They’re the people you may be sent to in the event of a brain injury. It’s not automatic to be referred this way, since if you don’t recover within the first few days of a concussion, your medical doctor may not know what else to do with you – which happens all to often. And your doctor may not have even heard of such an option.
Concussion treatment needs to be comprehensive and well thought out. Even with the help of a neuropsychologist, they’re not looking at the whole picture (AKA brain). Therefore, what I refer to concussion treatment is really a whole brain approach. This is because we MUST address the emotional state wholeheartedly, in a direct and profound way. It’s the emotional state that drives cognitive function. And is the underlying reason for either a healthy brain or a weakened one.
One of the primary symptoms of Post Concussion Syndrome is emotional outbursts and pronounced emotional feelings. When I first saw this, it immediately raised a red flag for me.
You see, behaviour is driven by your emotional state. You make decisions and take action based on how you feel. So it makes a whole lot of sense to help you deal with your emotional state first before dealing with the cognitive part.
And that’s where concussion treatment must be – helping you to identify the events and the emotional reaction to those events that served up to weaken your brain. Next, you need help to positively and constructively move back into your normal life at your chosen pace. With awareness to realize that it’s your responsibility to be honest with yourself at all times. If you feel good, keep doing it. When you don’t, stop and rest and try again another day.
Timmy suffered a concussion when he slide tackled and got kicked in the head. Most of his symptoms are gone or better. He’s doing vision therapy right now, but the process has been slow. Since being back at school, his honour roll is in jeopardy. Because he cannot see properly – the words on the page tremble and shake – he cannot read well. And his teachers are impatient with him. because they don’t understand what’s happened to him. His honour roll status is in jeopardy. On top of that, he has failed the Return-to-Play protocols to play his favorite sports. Life is on hold for this young man.
Watch as Timmy tells his story:
Are you happy and grateful that your own brain is in good condition and that you’re living life the way you want to? Because of the severe lack of treatment research on concussion, people like Timmy and his parents have to try things on their own. Timmy wants to be healthy again which is why he made the video.
