Do You Truly Feel ALIVE

What does it mean to feel alive?  Some people take great physical risks like Extreme Sports to feel alive. Some do risky things that aren’t good for them at all – they abuse themselves. They abuse others. They’re trying to FEEL because they are numb.

What does it mean to you to feel alive?

Watch this video:

When you’re born, the moment you were able to take your first breath, that was a sign of your aliveness. Any time a baby is born bluish is always a bad sign. Right away it must be determined how long the baby wasn’t processing oxygen.  The baby could be brain dead. The heart is certainly implicated too.

So breathing is VERY important.

A lifeless body no longer breathes.

In Chinese Medicine, the Lungs are one of the major sources of energy. It takes in the energy from air.  Together with the digestive system, the Spleen/Stomach, the air is mixed with the nutrients from the good food and drink we take in and creates more energy.

So breathing/air is an important energy source. If you have problems breathing in deeply you’re not getting adequate energy. Asthmatics are often weak in constitution. No accident there. If you cannot breathe out deeply, there’s a problem with accumulating waste materials.

People often hold their breath when they’re in pain – physically and mental/emotionally. The Lungs and the breath are affected by sadness, grief and worry.

Breathing in deeply is also a sign that you can take on whatever life throws at you. Try taking a breath right now. Can you breathe all the way into your tummy. Do it slowly. Then breathe out slowly.

Breathing calms you down because it accesses the bottom of the Vagus Nerve. You stimulate the millions of nerve endings in your gut. Eventually your body releases high concentrations of oxytocin, often called the “love hormone.”  Oxytocin increases your feelings of well-being. It calms you down and relaxes you, keeping you centered and focused.

However this effect is temporary. It’s really important that you figure out what is causing any physical or mental/emotional pain. Likely you already know what’s bothering you. So in 2016, what are you going to do about it?
