Hit the Off Button! But I didn’t. This morning I woke listening to CBC radio. Why do I bother? Because I sometimes want to hear what a certain segment of the world is thinking.
And it was NEGATIVE today. The only exception was that the Calgary Flames beat the Los Angeles Kings. They’re neck-and-neck in the play-off race, so it was GOOD news that they were winning. I’d say, most days, all the good news is on the sports clips.
Today the host talked about an Oxfam report regarding the 1%. You know, the people who are at the top of the heap? Oxfam said that the very rich will control 50% of all resources in the world. They said that making money was easy for these people. They also said that most of this money was NOT inherited. In other words, this means many who occupy the 1% are self-made rich.
The report spewed ALL of the myths about the very rich and the ones who are getting there. Among them, are that they don’t have to work so hard. Really? Money doesn’t grow on trees and it doesn’t appear just because you wished for it. Which is what winning a lottery is about. Money is energy. It moves to where it thinks it is deserved. However money begotten by means that are against spiritual good intentions won’t last long. A crime against someone else is always a crime against yourself.
It’s much easier to say the truth than to stick to a lie.
Inequality was a term used by these people today. But why is there inequality? Is not every success or failure, a state of mind?
There are definite traits of those who become successful. For instance, many have declared bankruptcy on the way up. But they gathered themselves up and begun again. Many have made mistakes along the way to their wealth. The majority of rich people worked HARD to get to where they are. They are mostly entrepreneurs, who created their life. They had goals. They had a vision of what life could be. They stuck with it. They believed. They persisted. They created. They never waited for permission.
In a lot ways, they kept their childlike qualities of dreaming and then pursuing and actually creating something in their own image. Like a child they explored the world, sought answers to questions and problems. In many ways, play is a creative and experimental pursuit which far too many mainstream psychologists and psychiatrists and politicians and parents are afraid of. Hmmm, I’ve got the 4 P’s here.
Twenty percent of any given population is doing extremely well. The majority of people, the rest, are not. What is the difference between them? It’s the mentality. It’s the willingness to take risks. It’s belief in a better life, in an improving life. And there’s also the willingness to work hard for what they want. They don’t give up when they meet their first obstacle. I’ve had to learn this too! I’ve also had to learn to be deaf to bad news and sour opinions. I was hitting that OFF button in my mind.
Instead of giving up, successful people look for another way. They go around the obstacle. They ask for and get help. They share their vision. They go through the obstacle. They don’t stop at the first obstacle. They stop listening to negative self-talk. They become adept at hitting that Off button. Do you gt it?
Whatever you focus on, you grow. And the evidence is what you’re living with now.
If you plant a seed of pessimism and if you focus on everything that’s wrong with the world, then that’s what you’ll get. More of the same. And you could even attract something wrong into your own life. I’m not saying that won’t happen when you’re an optimist, like I am. Things still happen that I don’t like, but it’s what I do about it that matters.
If I have to do something that I don’t want to do but I didn’t say, “No” to it, then I just get it over with.
If there’s something that I see that I don’t like, then I do something about it.
If there’s something that I hear that I don’t like, then I do something about it. Including, “Hit the OFF button!”
Inequality exists in the mind of the beholder. Negativity exists in the mind of the beholder. What you believe creates your world.
But there’s good news: you CAN change it. You can turn it around any time you want. This will require work to listen to what you’re parroting. You’re the only one in complete control of what you think, feel, say and do.
Begin by paying attention to your reaction when something goes wrong in your day. It’s not a bad thing to feel dismayed – at first. Nip it in the bud. Quickly. Decide if you have control over whatever it is and if so, you can indeed do something about it. If not, then leave it be and let it go.
Hit the OFF button in your mind. Your peace of mind is more important than anything else. Because the happier you are, the more prosperity and HEALTH you will have, no matter how bad the economy is. None of that can matter because as I’ve observed, living through so many recessions, that there are always people who defy what the news reports. And that by the way, is the majority of people who still have their jobs, who still have their homes.
They still believed that they would do just fine. That’s the majority. they hit that OFF button and refused to give in to the negativity.
For those who lose their jobs, it was time to leave. It was time of that part of their life to end and move on. That’s all there is to it.
I had my share of layoffs in corporate. The majority of my full-time staff jobs lasted 3 to 3.5 years. My last job lasted 3 months because by that point, I was no longer willing to put up with crap. When the HR person announced to me that she was firing me, I smiled at her. That was it for me. No more jobs!
