Heroes are human after all

Recent stories about Lance Armstrong and Oscar Pistorious often bring out the true feelings of some journalists or maybe the true feelings of their news editors. There’s the usual round of condemnation, that seems to dominate the news. Others are more forgiving but they’re few and far between. There’s indignation. People wonder, “How can it be?” Disbelief, then. Then there’s the incredulous claims that we don’t really know who these people really are.

Really?

You know, just when you think you know someone, anyone, that you’re close to, they might do something that YOU think is out of character. Anyone can act any way they want. Because unless you really can read minds constantly, you really don’t know anyone. On top of that, unless you’re 100% clairvoyant, you won’t be able to predict someone else’s response to any given situation.

Of course, that also means that you yourself won’t be able to predict your own reaction or response to any given situation, either. Do you get that?

I don’t do hypothetical scenarios for that reason. It never made sense to me to speculate my reaction to something that may never happen, so I don’t waste energy on it. Worrying therefore is about hypotheticals and NOT very useful.

Being prepared however is a different matter.

As a human being, you’re not perfect, but you were made in God’s image so you have what He has. You have that potential.

You will make mistakes and hopefully learn from them. Heroes are human too. They will make mistakes just like you. They may make some pretty awful mistakes. We will never understand why. All you can do is realize, that their decisions have NOTHING to do with you. I hope you’re not getting worked up over THEIR mistakes. They’ll have to live with it. You don’t.

Everything will soon pass. No point in passing judgement upon matters that won’t affect you personally.
