Let’s start with why these symptoms seem to happen to women at this time of life.
Actually, you may have been feeling some of these symptoms long before. Okay, in Chinese medicine, the Kidneys (energy) energetically govern the sexual and reproductive functions. Interestingly, situated right on top of the kidneys (organ) are the adrenals.
They are endocrine glands. They, in all their parts, secrete the hormones: adrenaline and noradrenaline (AKA epinephrine and norepinephrine), the stress hormone cortisol, and others. I want to focus on the stress hormone.
The adrenals sit on top of the Kidneys which is why energy is related to the Kidneys. But when you are affected by negative emotions such as fear, this sends cortisol, the stress hormone, into your body. Fear can be many things – for a lot of women, this often means worry and anxiety.
Some people are chronic worriers. They have vivid imaginations about bad things that might happen in the future. If you’re worried about safety – your own or that of someone you love – and you think about it often, then you’re definitely setting yourself up to deplete Kidney Yin.
Worry and anxiety are about feeling unsafe or insecure.
More coming.
