This statement is the latest cancer fundraising campaign from a hospital in Toronto, Ontario. They are trying to create a personalized way to treat cancer. They need $1 billion to do it.
Their campaign message is this:“Believe it. We will conquer cancer in our lifetime”
As I’ve written in another blog, I asked why things always have to be a battle. Is this a way to fire up the troops? But the thing is, when you’re at war, you’re actually not looking for a great solution. Just the end of the war.
Does the end justify the means? With such powerful and overly strong procedures that typically weaken the body – and the mind – it’s not a wonder that people die from the “cures” as much as from the psychological weight of facing one’s mortality.
Do you know that every known serious, terminal disease and condition has been championed by the sufferer, by themselves? Every one. But medical authorities think these are oddities and so, they don’t study them. Probably, because there’s nothing to patent!
These people survived and thrived because
1) they knew what they didn’t want – the choice of treatments and the prognosis they were given.
2) they made a firm decision to find another way.
3) they believed that they were going to live.
4) they found ways to cure themselves, outside of the usual medical intervention and against the advice of their doctors.
5) they believed that they were going to live.
6) they made the necessary changes in their lives and their point of view.
I’ve repeated a statement here. They believed they were going to live. That’s where they started. They didn’t believe what their doctors told them. Then they decided to live and they took their lives in their own hands and worked really hard at it.
You can’t patent human decisiveness, drive, and fortitude. The lesson here is: If you ever really want something, then you’re going to work for it and work it hard. You’re going to go against common “wisdom” and do what you strongly feel is right. You’re going to ignore the noise from other people and you’re going to focus on the solution.
None of this can be patented or sold. It is your own drive and fortitude that will carry you through the tough times, but as long as you believe and have a strong will and reason to live, you can do anything, accomplish anything, including saving your own life!
Let me end by saying that you don’t even have to come to the edge of the cliff. If you take the steps now to prevent it painlessly, then you don’t have to face the pain and the fear.
